June 2019.
Purpose-built singletrack, spectacular views and fast farm roads – all a mountain-biker could wish for, really. The seventh edition of the JBay Wind Farm MTB Classic will go down on Sunday 29 June 2019, and this year’s event will once again offer something for riders of a range of fitness and skill levels.
Entries are selling out fast and, while it is possible to enter on the day, it is best to enter online to avoid disappointment.
The event carries the unique distinction of being the only one-day race in Africa to traverse a wind farm – the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm – and features a 25km fun ride; 50km half-marathon and 85km ultra. More detailed route information will be released closer to event-day, but the routes will remain largely unchanged: The 25km fun ride is ideal for those just getting into mountain biking, while both the 50km marathon and the 85km will feature beautiful singletrack and short, sharp climbs. The 85km is traditionally an ideal shakedown training ride ahead of Transbaviaans in August and the route is always technical and challenging.
A day out for the whole family
The day promises to be an exciting one for the whole family with various new innovations for 2019. This year sees the event moving to a new home in the form the spectacular Twin Valley Nature Estate just outside Jeffreys Bay. This residential eco estate with its beautiful vistas over the Indian Ocean lends itself to a contained, safe carnival atmosphere and gives great access to the trails which have become a trademark of the event over the years.
The new venue will have a race village setup based around a 20m closed marquee tent as well as 10m Bedouin stretch tent. It will play host to a spit braai for purchase by riders, their families and supporters, while a live band will provide live music and there will be various activities for the kids during the day as well.
Another great addition to the 2019 event is the addition of a 10km trail run and 5km fun walk. Both of these will also give people the opportunity to experience the wind turbines.
Entries for both the MTB and Trail Running events are selling out fast, head over to https://jbaymtbclassic.co.za/ to get yours.
