Grade 3 winners of a schools renewable energy creative writing competition visited Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm as part of their prize. “These learners are representative of the twelve local community schools, who put their weight behind Global Wind Day, in an effort to teach learners more about Renewable Energy, and in particular how energy is harvested from the abundant wind in this province,” explained Marion Green-Thompson, Economic Development Manager for Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.

These schools form part of the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm’s Foundation Phase Reading Coach Support Programme, an initiative that has been developed in partnership with the Department of Education.

Grade 1 to Grade 3 learners from the schools across Jeffreys Bay, Hankey, Patensie and Humansdorp partook in the initiative; aptly name “The Wind”, which was launched in June this year. Learners were incentivised through prizes that included books, equipment, science goods and even digital cameras. The Grade 3 winners from across the 12 schools got to visit Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm and learn about wind energy first hand.

Schools that participated in the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm in ‘The Wind’ included: Chigwell Primary School, Gamtoosvalley Primary School, Graslaagte Primary School, Kruisfontein Primary School, Masisebenze Primary School, Mzingisi Primary School, Patensie Primary School, Quagga Primary School, St Patricks EC Primary School, Vukani Primary School, Weston Primary School and Sea Vista Primary School.
