R670 000 towards Wilderness Foundation training programme

Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm has sponsored five students from the Jeffreys Bay area to attend the Wilderness Foundation, as part of the Umzi programme.  The Wilderness Foundation incorporates an accredited training programme that has the potential to transform the lives of these young people from one of limited opportunity to a life filled with hope and possibility.
We believe that by providing access to good quality accredited life-skills training, young people have a better chance at accessing the economy and finding careers that are uplifting and of benefit to the greater community.
This is the tenth year that Wilderness Foundation has successfully been implementing the programme with accredited Hospitality and Conservation skills courses, which meant that the selected students were able to choose the field of study that interested them.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has partnered with the Wilderness Foundation in training and developing field rangers in the following activities: alien plant control, road maintenance, alien plant eradication, tree identification and environmental education including water testing.
Four students from the Jeffery’s Bay area are currently completing the hospitality course. Due to the variety of practical placement partners, it is anticipated that the students will gain an array of skills. These include front of house, point of sale, barista skills, junior chef, banqueting and catering skills.
